What is Kava?

Kava (Piper methysticum) is a plant native to the Pacific Islands, where it has been used for centuries in traditional ceremonies and social gatherings.

How Kava is Made

Traditional kava is made by grinding the dried root of the kava plant and mixing it with water. The active compounds, called kavalactones, are extracted into the liquid, creating a smooth, earthy tea.

At PoorHouse Kava, we serve freshly brewed kava tea using Noble kava root – the highest quality variety prized for its balanced effects and smooth taste.

Our build-your-own system lets you customize your kava experience:

  • Pour sizes: Single (6oz), Double (12oz), Triple (16oz)
  • Bases: Brewed kava tea, juice, nut milk, or seltzer
  • Boosts: Kava extract shot (1g, 30% kavalactones per dose)
  • Flavors: House syrups and fresh juices

Important: Do NOT mix kava with alcohol. Combining kava with alcohol may increase the risk of liver and kidney damage. We will not serve kava to visibly intoxicated guests.
